+ Pin-up shots uploaded! (19/09/2009 - 16:36:27)
+ Seamed Stockings and Red Lipstick (27/08/2009 - 23:43:15)
A selection of the pin-up shots I took of Fifi Fatale are finally uploaded and you can find them in the Studio Portraits Gallery.
We went for a newer and darker approach to pin-up as opposed to the "cheesecake" style of the 40's and 50's. I think Fifi thought this suited her persona more and she's quite right.
It occured to me that pin-up phototgraphy does not seem to require much in the way of exciting, daring or creative lighting as such. So I was worried the shots would look too plain at first. But then I realised that sometimes it's quite satisfying just to focus on trying to capture the glamour and seductiveness. Light it nicely, direct and capture!
We are hoping to do another shoot sometime in the near future but this time on the side of Burlesque, which I am really looking forward to.
Check out Fifi Fatale's MySpace page and website too, the links for which you will find in my Links section on this site. She often performs in London alongside many other lovely Burlesque beauties.
I hope you like the shots.

It's getting late and I'm finally just about to finish editing / retouching a shoot I did with an acquaintance of mine - Fifi Fatale, Burlesque dancer and pin-up model.
Sometimes, especially when working in a studio environment, it can be such a pleasure to work with someone who wants to be photographed, who has a certain style and character which they want to portray through a photograph and has the wardrobe and make-up to fit. Then it's up to me to direct them, light and capture them appropriately.
I have absolutely no desire to venture in Fashion photography (no disrespect to Fashion photographers - I understand it can be a very challenging genre and requires great skill) because at times the very thought of the fashion industry in general can invoke reactions of distaste in me. It simply just doesn't "float my boat".
But having said that, Burlesque and pin-up style portraiture (especially that of a 1940's theme) appeals to the actress in me and I enjoy the idea of the need for this portraiture to have a certain feel and theatricality to it. So it is a field of portraiture I am quite keen to investigate further.
Having a passion for theatre, movies, music, dance and so forth I thoroughly enjoy photographing performers and creative individuals of all kinds so I intend continue with this. Like I say, I used to be a performer myself so it's no suprise, is it?
So why not Burlesque and pin-up too?
We'll see how the shots turn out! Soon to be uploaded....
